Learning Management Systems and Types of Training Courses

SWOG posts online training materials via the following systems:

  • Study-specific training courses (both optional and required) and general site training (such as the SWOG Clinical Trials Training Course) are accessible to all NCTN (including NCORP) members via login with their ID.me credentials (previously linked to their CTEP IAM account) via the CTSU Compliance, Learning and SOP Solutions (CLASS) learning management system.
    • For an overview of how to use the CTSU CLASS system, refer to: Resources | Getting Started | CLASS (Compliance, Learning, and SOP Solutions) (login with current ID.me credentials required).
      CLASS LMS
      • You can search the CLASS course offering (for courses provided by SWOG or other Lead Groups) by clicking the search icon near the top of the screen and typing in any key word or study number or you can browse the CLASS catalog.
      • The CLASS Catalog is divided into 2 folders:
        1. General Site Training and 2. Study and Assessment-Specific Training
        • To locate SWOG-provided courses, scroll to the bottom and click "more" to view courses starting with "SWOG".
    • Note: For studies activated prior to 2022, some 'legacy' study-specific training materials still reside on SWOG.org.
      • Direct links to SWOG study-specific training (posted in CLASS or on SWOG.org) studies are posted on the respective CTSU.org protocol abstract page under Documents>>Protocol.

  • SWOG member-only training courses are hosted via the: ExpertusOne Learning Management System (LMS).
    • SWOG members must login with their current ID.me credentials (previously linked to their CTEP IAM account) to access role-defined training via the ExpertusOne LMS.
      • For new SWOG members, please note: The first login to the ExpertusOne Learning Management System will create your user account.  Then, the account will be synced (overnight) with the SWOG database. After the overnight sync, at next login (the following day), the learner will have access to all role-driven training the next business day. Please direct system access questions to LMSsupport@swog.org.
    • Please refer to the SWOG ExpertusOne Learning Management System Overview. Additional, detailed instructions for the Site Principal Investigator Workshop and Study Chair Workshop training plans are included via access instruction links below.
    • All SWOG ExpertusOne LMS courses are set-up as self-enrollment courses (and will NOT appear in the Learner's "My Learning" Dashboard until after the learner selects to "Enroll" to the course).

Enrollment and Learner Dashboards:

  • All SWOG online training courses are set up for self-enrollment.  Staff must navigate to the course and enroll or start the course (dependent upon the system) prior to it showing up on the learner's dashboard.

Types of training:

  • Study-specific trainings provide important overview information for site initiation and training processes pertinent to the conduct of the respective SWOG trials.
    • Protocol-specific requirements (PSRs) for training:
      • In the event that study-specific training is required to be completed by the participating site (or site staff) as a prerequisite to patient enrollment, a link to the required training materials (and/or associated training instructions) will be included in the SWOG protocol Sections 13 and 15. Note: In 2022, SWOG transitioned to provision of study-specific training via the CTSU CLASS learning management system for NCTN studies.

    • Optional study-specific training resources that are provided for site use and support of local site initiation procedures may be posted either  via the CTSU CLASS learning management system (for studies activated after June 2022) or via the CTSU website under the Protocol Related Documents tab (Filter: Education and Promotion) of the respective SWOG protocol.

  • General site training.
    • SWOG provides a wide-range of short 5- to 30-minute training courses that sites may utilize to onboard research staff.
      • Within the SWOG ExpertusOne system, member access training programs are role-defined (Investigator or Oncology Research Professionals) and accessible via individual course/video or complete training plan.
      • Within the CTSU CLASS system, all training courses are accessible to anyone with current ID.me credentials.
