SWOG's Fall 2013 Group Meeting will take place October 10-12 at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. For Group Meeting questions not answered here, you can send us a message via the Contact Us page. On-line registration has closed. The on-site registration desk will open at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9.

Need Special Accommodations?

Hotel Reservations

You can reserve your hotel room at the Hyatt Regency online or by calling 888-421-1442. When calling, ask for the SWOG room block. The Group room rate is $250 plus tax. The cut off date for making reservations is September 16. Any reservations after that time will be based on rate and space availability. To cancel or change your Hyatt reservation, call 888-421-1442.

Travel Arrangements Through Conlin Travel

SWOG has contracted with Conlin Travel to provide discounted travel arrangements for the Fall Group Meeting in Chicago. To take advantage of the discounted rates, contact Conlin Travel by phone at 800-783-9559. Be sure to mention that you are traveling to Chicago for the SWOG meeting.

If your travel is not funded directly by the Group Chair's Office, you may use Conlin Travel but you will have to pay for your airfare upfront. You will then need to request reimbursement after the Group Meeting, if applicable.

Membership Application Deadline

The deadline for submitting membership nominations to the Operations Office for consideration by the Board of Governors at the Fall Group Meeting is 4:00 PM Central time Friday, September 6. Consult the Membership page for more information; for a complete outline of the nomination process, refer to Policy Memorandum No. 7.

Jeri and Noboru Oishi Symposium

The Jeri and Noboru Oishi Symposium will be held on Thursday, October 10, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, following the Nurse/CRA business meeting. The topic for the Symposium will be "NCI Program Changes and AE Guidance." From 8:00 - 8:30 am, prior to the symposium, there will be a presentation on "Introduction and Specimen Submission Details for S1222 (postmenopausal, hormone receptor positive Stage IV breast cancer)" given by Drs. Somlo, Hayes and Hicks. Symposium speakers include Kari Williams, RN, BSN and Marge Good, RN, MPH, OCN.

To sign up, choose Jeri and Noboru Oishi Symposium as an event during Group Meeting online registration. Please note: Handouts will not be provided at the workshop, but are available from the link below. You will need to print the handouts and bring with you to the group meeting. Thank you for your cooperation in this cost saving measure.

This activity has been submitted to the Oncology Nursing Society for approval to award contact hours. ONS is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centerís COA.

SoCRA attendance certificates will also be provided.

Oncology Research Professionals Open Forum

The ORP Open Forum offers the opportunity to discuss all of your technical questions!

The ORP Open Forum is set for Thursday, October 10, 12:30-2:00 pm. This forum offers a great opportunity to get answers to your clinical trial questions and to address the science and technical research issues that challenge us today! Come meet your facilitator in a small group setting to discuss interesting topics including:

Oncology Research Professionals (ORP) Continuing Education Workshop

The ORP Continuing Education Workshop will be on Friday, October 11, 8:00 - 11:30 am.

The topic for the Continuing Education Workshop will be Renal Carcinoma. Featured speakers include Elisabeth I. Heath, MD, Christopher W. Ryan, MD, Najla Bugazia, PharmD and Michele O'Brien, RN, MSN, ACNNS-BC, BA.

Bioinformatics Workshop

Registration for the Bioinformatics Workshop has closed. If you are interested in participating in this workshop please email Courtney Wille, cwille@swog.org.Your name will be added to a waiting list in case of any cancellations.

"Bioinformatics Tools for Clinical Researchers: How to access, analyze, and interpret data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and related databases"

This hands-on workshop at the SWOG Fall 2013 Group Meeting will introduce clinical researchers to data and user-friendly bioinformatics tools that will be directly applicable to their research. We will accept a maximum of 50 registrations for this workshop. Register early!

Translational Medicine Office Hours

Several of our scientist partners from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, The Jackson Laboratory, and the University of Michigan will hold "office hours" for SWOG investigators interested in exploring potential collaborations. Office hours will be on Friday before Plenary Part II and registration is required. To sign up for a time slot, please visit the onsite SWOG registration desk.

Disease & Research Open Office Hours

In evaluations of recent SWOG group meetings, many of you have said you would like more chances to interact across committees and learn about what others are doing and planning. To test one approach to providing these opportunities, several SWOG leaders will hold open office hours for informal discussion about work going on in their disease and research area. If you're looking to explore collaboration in any of these areas, here's your chance to reach out. No need to register in advance; just show up and join the conversation.

With the rollout of the National Clinical Trials Network next year, the NCI is looking for new approaches to cancer research, and we at SWOG are dedicated to "improving through innovation" across all aspects of our operations. Dr. Craig Nichols and Dr. Michael Fisch will hold open office hours on "social innovation," including how best to take advantage of social media to help us achieve our mission. These will be great venues for trading ideas and brainstorming, so get involved!
