When I wrote about our Oncology Research Professionals (ORP) Committee in my "Non-Classic Committees" Front Line column two weeks ago, I had to hold back on announcing a piece of news that was only 99.87% definite then. It's 100% now.
ORP Committee Chair Rose Ermete has accepted a position with SWOG as a nurse auditor, a position that while extremely valuable to us unfortunately requires she step down from her ORP Committee leadership role. I am, however, pleased to announce I have appointed Keisha Humphries to succeed Ms. Ermete, starting October 1st, and in time for our live meeting.
Ms. Ermete has done a phenomenal job of bringing together the former Nursing and Clinical Research Associates (CRA) Committees into a single, cohesive group, one with a strong mission and a clearly defined organizational structure. Working initially with the former CRA Committee Chair Susan Majeski, she oversaw the 2012 merging of these two committees in the interest of greater consistency and efficiency, and less duplication of effort and resources. The ORP Committee, which actually represents a full one-half of the SWOG membership, is a wonderful legacy, and we thank Ms. Ermete for it.
Keisha Humphries, based at Via Christi Health, is Head Clinical Research Associate with the former Wichita CCOP, now recast as the Wichita NCORP. With a BSN and a Master's of Health Care Leadership from Friends University, she has been a SWOG member since 1999 and has been quite active with the ORP Committee. She is also a member of the Leukemia Committee, the Symptom Control and Quality of Life Committee, and the Quality Assurance Committee, which she has assisted with many quality assurance audits over the years. She serves as nurse coordinator on the S1013 study of EGFR-inhibitor induced skin toxicity.
We welcome Keisha Humphries to this role and look forward to continued excellence from the ORP Committee. In welcoming Ms. Humphries we again give warm thanks to Rose Ermete for her sage stewardship of the young ORP Committee. And we welcome her as a SWOG staff member!
