We're launching lots of exciting initiatives to help make SWOG group meetings better fulfill your needs. Office hours are being setup to allow you to directly talk to SWOG experts in a personal setting. Here are some specifics:
Translational Medicine (TM) Office Hours
Several of our basic science leaders and partners will hold Translational Medicine office hours. These present a great opportunity to discuss ways to incorporate basic science into your clinical trial protocol. You will be able to sign up for 20-minute time slots to meet one-on-one. Stay tuned for registration information.
Disease and Research Office Hours
In your evaluations of recent SWOG group meetings, many of you have said you would like more chances to interact across committees and learn about what others are doing and planning. To test one approach to providing these opportunities, several SWOG leaders will hold office hours for informal discussion about work going on in their area. If you're looking to explore collaboration in any of these areas, here's your chance to reach out.
Innovation Office Hours
With the rollout of the National Clinical Trials Network next year, the NCI is looking for new approaches to cancer research, and we at SWOG are dedicated to "improving through innovation" across all aspects of our operations. Dr. Craig Nichols and Dr. Michael Fisch will hold office hours on "social innovation," including how best to take advantage of social media to help us achieve our mission. These will be great venues for trading ideas and brainstorming, so get involved! Locations and further details will be posted to the group meeting website.
Finally, Drs. John Weinstein and Rehan Akbani will again hold a Bioinformatics Workshop on Saturday, October 12, from 10 am - 12:30 pm, on how to access and navigate The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and related databases. Last spring's workshop got glowing reviews! Only 50 spots are available, so sign up early via the group meeting registration page.
