SWOG's core NCTN grants are "high impact"

Jul 26, 2013 - The NCI's reviewers have completed their scoring of the three core SWOG grant applications we submitted within the new National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). I am pleased to announce that all three of these applications were rated in the "high impact" range. Our Statistics and Data Management Center application was scored in the "exceptional" range, and our Network Group Operations Center and Integrated Translational Science Center applications both earned "outstanding" marks. We expect detailed reviewer comments later in the summer.

In a time of federal budget uncertainty, it would be imprudent to predict how reviewer scores and comments might translate into funding decisions when the National Cancer Advisory Board meets in the fall. In fact, all of the cooperative groups scored reasonably well, though, so I am cautiously optimistic about the future of publicly funded cancer research.

Our success comes from the commitment of our members. Thank you for the work you do caring for patients and the work you do as researchers. Thanks to all who helped write and edit our grant applications!
